Prime Minister, Regional Governors Discuss Preparation of October 5 Parliamentary Elections

Sofia, September 1 (BTA) - At a working meeting Monday caretaker
Prime Minister Georgi Bliznashki, regional governors and
members of the Central Election Commission (CEC) discussed the
preparation of the October 5 early parliamentary elections, the
government's information service said.

The regional governors reported that all constituency election
commission have been created, along with proper conditions for
their work. Good coordination is maintained among the regional
administrations, the constituency election commissions, local
administrations, and law-enforcement bodies.

Bliznashki said that the government works to create normal
conditions for conducting the elections and "calm the raging
passions after the past tense year". He urged the regional
governors to be free of any bias in their work and asked them to
meet and talk with all political forces as "all should have
equal starting positions". "Our task is to attain that end
legitimate result which will be accepted by society," Bliznashki
 said.

The Prime Minister called on regional governors who intend to
take part in the election campaign of a given political force to
undertake steps to vacate their posts. "In other circumstances
taking a leave of absence would be enough but in the current
situation, society will not accept this option. We must avert
any factor that could further fuel the political passions,"
Bliznashki said.

The Prime Minister paid special attention to counteracting vote
buying. "No compromises must be allowed. The hotspots on the
local scale are known, as are the likely perpetrators," he said,
urging the regional governors to establish good cooperation
with the law-enforcement authorities so as "to nip the phenomena
 in the bud".

CEC Chairperson Ivilina Alexieva noted the good coordination at
the central and regional level between the Council of Ministers
and CEC. CEC Secretary Sevinch Solakova gave top marks for the
election preparations at the moment and said that all tasks laid
down in the Election Coed are being fulfilled on time. SN /ZH/
