Deputy Prime Minister Zaharieva:Energy Sector May Collapse Due to Imbalances,
Lack of Fast Solutions
Sofia, September 2 (BTA) - An energy board with the Council of
Ministers held its first meeting behind closed doors late on
Tuesday afternoon.
Opening the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister in charge of economic
development Ekaterina Zaharieva said that the board's task will
be to put forward solutions to Council of Ministers,
Parliament, ministries and the energy regulator.
Zaharieva voiced expectation that this inaugural meeting will be
able to set up an expert council which will determine the
agenda and be a vehicle for constructive dialogue between all
stakeholders. According to Zaharieva, the expert council should
comprise no more than 10 members in order to be effective.
Attending the meeting were Economy and Energy Minister Vassil
Shtonov and representatives of businesses, trade unions and
companies in the energy sector.
Imbalances in the energy sector are of threatening scope and
without fast solutions
which take into account the interests of all stakeholders, the
energy sector could collapse, said Zaharieva. None of the
stakeholders wants or should pay the price alone for offsetting
the deficit in the system.
The Deputy Prime Minister urged participants to rally behind the
underlying principles to the board's operation: the rule of
law, favourable business environment, environment protection,
and equality of all stakeholders. SN/PP
