Tourism, Trade, Culture Are Priorities in Relations between Bulgaria and Asian Countries

Sofia, December 9 (BTA) - Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov held a
working meeting with ambassadors of Asian countries here on
Tuesday, his Ministry said.

"Bulgaria has a direct and consistent interest in the Asian
Pacific region. It takes into account the growing importance of
the region in world politics, economy and finance. It is also
fully aware of the ever-growing role Asian countries have as a
factor for peace and stability, energy security, the fight
against threats to security, the efforts to tackle climate
change and the solution to the problems of development," Mitov
said.

The Foreign Minister noted the good relations between Bulgaria
and the Asian countries, and assure the diplomats that the
Bulgarian government has the political will to foster friendship
and cooperation with these countries. As a EU member Bulgaria
contributed to the common EU foreign policy in respect to the
countries in the region, including at summit-level dialogue. It
also participates in the drafting and negotiation of partnership
and cooperation agreements, as well as free-trade agreements
between the EU and a number of countries in the area.

The ambassadors of the Asian countries pinpointed tourism,
trade, economic and cultural relations as priorities for their
countries in relations with Bulgaria. The decision of the
Bulgarian authorities to establish a Ministry of Tourism for the
first time in its history was appreciated highly. The
participants in the meeting agreed that there is considerable
unused potential for cooperation in tourism, a sphere by which
Bulgaria sets great store.

Mitov assured his guests that Bulgaria is also striving to
promote economic contacts with the countries in the region by
attracting investment and financial resources, technologies, and
by increasing trade, including the establishment of regular
contacts between partners in Bulgaria and the Asian
countries.
