President Plevneliev: War in Syria Should Be Stopped at All Costs

New York, September 29 (BTA) - "The position of Bulgaria and the entire democratic world on the situation in Syria is categorical: a dictator who bombs thousands of people and innocents children can't be part of a sustainable and workable solution on Syria. We welcome the dialogue between the US and Russia and the efforts by the UN Security Council but the process isn't easy and by no means as quick as we would like," said President Rosen Plevneliev. He was speaking to Bulgarian media in New York ahead of the UN summit on ISIS, hosted by President Barack Obama.

The Bulgarian head of State said that after talks between US and Russia on Monday the differences remained. "Here we see the key role of the EU which is very keen on finding a solution which could effectively help the US on the one hand, Russia on the other and also regional powers which are equally important such as Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Iran. These regional powers together with the global powers and through the meditation of the EU should find a sustainable solution. Syria is the determining factor in achieving progress in the Middle East," said Plevneliev, quoted by his Press Secretariat.

"The war in Syria should be stopped at all costs and the global community should wake up. The place to make that decision is the UN Security Council. It is high time that the world showed its ability to solve crises and not deepen them," said Plevneliev.
