site.btaSlavcho Velkov Runs for Vice President

Slavcho Velkov is a candidate for vice president in the upcoming elections on October 25 in accordance with a decision by the Central Election Commission. He was put forward by a nomination committee alongside presidential candidate Volen Siderov.

Velkov was born in 1950. He is a lecturer at New Bulgarian University in the Department of Political Science on terrorism and organized crime. Velkov has taught MA and BA degree courses at the St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, the Diplomatic Institute, and the Military Medical Academy, specializing in counter-terrorism. He served as a member of the 44th National Assembly, elected on the BSP for Bulgaria ticket. He was deputy chair of the Committee for Control of the Security Services and a member of the parliamentary Committee on Defence, according to information provided to BTA by his nomination committee. In 2021, he served as an advisor to the Council of Ministers under the caretaker government of Stefan Yanev. In the 2022 parliamentary elections, Velkov headed the candidate lists for the Movement of Non-Party Candidates in the 25th Multi-member Constituency (Sofia) and the 13th Multi-member Constituency (Pazardzhik).
