site.btaNew Roman-Era Discovery to Be Unveiled at Perperikon
A new archaeological discovery will be presented among the remains of the Roman temples at Perperikon, head of excavations Prof. Nikolay Ovcharov told BTA on Tuesday.
The find will be unveiled on September 17 and concerns the weapons and equipment used by Roman legionaries at ancient Perperikon. It was discovered during this year’s excavations of mausoleums belonging to Roman citizens from the Late Roman period, as well as a rock-cut sarcophagus and a lead seal (molybdobull) belonging to Empress Irene Komnene.
