In The Mood jazz club is opening its third season under the motto Beyond Borders, which its team believes describes most accurately describes the direction in which the club continues to develop. They said Wednesday that Beyond Borders brings together the Bulgarian and international jazz scenes, different generations and musical languages, established artists and new names.

On September 16, Cuban singer Olvido Ruiz will perform with a band. The third season will officially open on September 18 with a concert by Mihail Yossifov, Velislav Stoyanov, Vasil Spasov, Dimitar Karamfilov and Atanas Popov, followed by an open jam session.

Other September highlights include Om Jazz Trio, with special guest Hungarian double bassist Tamas Gyanyi, on September 22. Saxophonists Vladimir Karparov and Tihomir Krastev will perform music by Cannonball Adderley and John Coltrane on September 25. The Istanbul quartet Kapiko will perform on September 26 in a project where contemporary jazz, ethno and fusion meet the musical traditions of Anatolia and the Balkans.

On October 3, American saxophonist Tim Armacost, a Grammy nominee with more than four decades of international career and collaborations with artists such as Al Foster, Jimmy Cobb, Kenny Barron, Tom Harrell, Roy Hargrove and Randy Brecker, will perform.

Istanbul-born, London-based pianist and composer Cenk Esen will appear on October 9. He is a graduate of Berklee College of Music and the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, and has performed at venues and festivals including Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, Royal Albert Hall, Montreux Jazz Festival and New York Winter Jazz Festival.

Canadian saxophonist Seamus Blake will perform on October 15, while Italian saxophonist Gaetano Partipilo will present his Boom Collective with Jonathan Gee on October 24. The month will close on October 30 with Portuguese pianist John Barreto and his trio.

On November 6, the Scandinavian trio led by Norwegian pianist Espen Eriksen will perform. The pianist has seven critically acclaimed albums, concerts on several continents and a long-standing creative partnership with British saxophonist Andy Sheppard. American pianist Andrew Nevala will appear with his quartet the following day, while the international programme continues on November 20 with Russian-born trumpeter Alex Sipiagin.

In The Mood is also introducing its Analog Room: an intimate space where cinema, vinyl, photography, visual arts and conversation meet outside the rhythm of the traditional concert programme. Its film programme will include specially selected screenings of 8 mm and 16 mm films. Digital Cinema will present auteur, documentary, art and festival films, titles outside the usual cinema circuit and meetings with their creators. The space will also host photography and visual arts exhibitions, while In The Mood’s cultural programme will further include book premieres and presentations, and conversations with authors.
