New Bulgarian University Students Show Comics, Create Awards for Varna Animation Festival

Comics and ceramic works by students of New Bulgarian University (NBU) in Sofia are on display as part of the 22nd World Festival of Animated Film in Varna, on the Black Sea.

The comics were created by students in NBU's Animation Cinema programme as part of a caricature, illustration and comics course taught by Stefan Voyvodov.

Voyvodov said the works were diverse in both subject matter and style and highlighted the students' range of expressive techniques and the messages conveyed through their work. He described the participants as talented and thoughtful young people with the potential to become successful filmmakers.

The second exhibition presents ceramic works created by NBU students that serve as awards at the World Festival of Animated Film. The collaboration between the University's Animation Cinema and Ceramics programmes began in 2021 at the initiative of Prof. Anri Kulev, a director, artist and NBU lecturer who also heads the festival.

The ceramic figures were made by students at NBU's Ceramics teaching, practice and research unit at its Centre for Arts. The exhibition was presented by ceramics student Daniela Boyanova, who said the works on display represent only a small part of what students create in the studio during the academic year.

Boyanova is also leading a children's clay-figure workshop as part of the festival.
