site.btaContracting for Energy Renovation Funding Is Completed on Time, Will Extend to 630 Residential Buildings

The Bulgarian Development Bank (BDB) has completed, within the deadline, the contracting of projects for the energy renovation of multi-family residential buildings under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP). As a result, 630 residential blocks, with a total built-up area of nearly 1.3 million square meters across more than 100 municipalities in the country, will be renovated, the bank’s press office announced.

The funding covers 100% of the eligible costs for the energy renovation of the approved buildings.

The financial resource managed by the bank under the investment amounts to EUR 332.5 million. Initially, by a government decision, The bank was tasked with managing EUR 246.6 million under the scheme. In August, following amendments to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, the financial resource was increased by an additional EUR 85.9 million.

BDB took over the management of the subsidy scheme  for energy renovation of residential buildings  in 2026, following a Council of Ministers decree after approval by the European Commission. For implementation, the project proposals under Stage I and Stage II, as well as the reserve list, were transferred to the bank by the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works.

In this way, Bulgaria managed to preserve the NRRP funding for the energy renovation of multi-family residential buildings, while meeting the deadline of August 31 for signing the financing agreements.

Work at the bank was accelerated to ensure that the review, assessment, and contracting of the projects could be completed within the tight deadlines, the bank said.
