Book Alley – Sofia 2026 will run along Vitosha Boulevard and in the park in front of the National Palace of Culture (NDK) from September 7 to 13, the Bulgarian Book Association said on Friday. The official opening is slated for Monday, September 7.
For seven days, visitors will be able to browse new titles and familiar favourites for all ages and interests and meet dozens of Bulgarian authors. Book Alley will be open daily. Its accompanying cultural programme will include book launches and presentations, literary discussions, book signings, children’s events and various creative initiatives.
Meetings with authors and presentations of new titles will begin on the opening day, followed by dozens of events at the Literary Corner and publishers’ tents throughout the week.
Authors scheduled to meet readers include Georgi Gospodinov, Zdravka Evtimova, Zachary Karabashliev, Maria Doneva, Ivo Siromahov, Katya Antonova, Nikolay Terziyski, Georgi Konstantinov and Maria Kasimova-Moase, among many others.
The programme brings together established figures in contemporary Bulgarian literature, debut authors and emerging voices. It also includes meetings with translators and publishers, events for young readers and presentations spanning a range of literary genres.
Book Alley – Sofia is one of the country’s largest literary events and traditionally turns the city centre into a meeting place for writers, publishers and readers.
In 2026, Book Alley – Sofia is partnering with Democratic Mosaic, a civic festival dedicated to active participation and bringing together people, organizations and causes. The partnership broadens the space for discussion and the exchange of ideas, while placing additional emphasis on books and reading as foundations of an informed and active society.
Book Alley – Sofia 2026 is held with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education and Science. Its partners include the Bulgarian News Agency, Delta Guard, Democratic Mosaic and Reading Trolls.
The event is organized by the Bulgarian Book Association and forms part of Sofia Municipality’s 2026 Cultural Calendar.
