Tourism sector categorization standards need to be updated to reflect changes in the industry, Yasen Shterev, Deputy Chair of Parliament’s Tourism Committee, said at the Golden Sands resort on Friday. Shterev was among the participants in a working meeting on infrastructure and tourism, attended by Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Ivan Shishkov and Tourism Minister Ilin Dimitrov. The meeting also brought together Varna Regional Governor Mario Smarkov, members of Parliament from Progressive Bulgaria, Venelin Shakov, Executive Director of Bulgarian Water and Sewerage Holding EAD, as well as representatives of industry organizations and companies from across the Black Sea coast and experts.

Shterev identified infrastructure in the country’s major national resorts as another problem, noting that ownership there is often mixed.

“No one should expect us to nationalize anything. We need to find the best way for the state to partner with businesses,” Shterev said.
