On Saturday, President Iliana Iotova will visit the Monastery of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God in Troyan, Central North Bulgaria, for the monastery’s feast day, the head of State's Press Secretariat announced.
The President will attend the festive divine liturgy, which will be led by the monastery’s abbot Bishop Basil of Dragovitsa. Afterwards, Iotova will take part in the traditional liturgical procession carrying the miraculous icon of the Most Holy Mother of God Troeruchitsa, or the Three-handed Theotokos, which has been kept at the monastery since the 17th century.
On August 15, Orthodox Christians in Bulgaria celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It is the official holiday of Varna and Nessebar on the Black Sea, as well as the southwestern town of Kyustendil. Churches carrying the name of the Holy Virgin hold services and festive events.
