site.btaPresident to Visit Perperikon Archaeological Complex, Kardzhali Hospital

President Iliana Iotova will visit the Perperikon archaeological complex, located in the Eastern Rhodope Mountains, where she will see the latest discoveries at the ancient rock city, the President’s press secretariat said on Tuesday. She will be welcomed by Prof. Nikolay Ovcharov, scientific director of the archaeological excavations, who invited her to visit the site.

The archaeologists will present a massive stone sarcophagus discovered in the previously uncovered stone mausoleum of the rotunda type dating from the Late Roman period. According to Ovcharov, the mausoleum is the latest architectural discovery at Perperikon.

Later, President Iotova will visit Dr Atanas Dafovski Hospital in Kardzhali, where she will meet with the hospital’s management and staff. She will tour the newly opened centre for the diagnosis of cerebrovascular diseases, built under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

The hospital’s diagnostic imaging department is expected to begin examinations within days using a latest-generation mammography system. The hospital is also a beneficiary of the Bulgarian Christmas charity initiative of the presidential institution.
