The Bulgarian naval research vessel Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii (RSV 421) will visit Nessebar to mark the fifth anniversary of it joining the fleet of the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy and the completion of four successful expeditions to Antarctica, the Nessebar Municipality said in a press release. This will be the vessel's third visit to the town.

RSV 421 will arrive at Nessebar at 2:00 p.m. on July 28. Later that day, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., the RSV 421 will host an Open Day, giving residents and visitors the opportunity to learn about the vessel's mission and Bulgaria's Antarctic expeditions, as well as hear stories from the skipper and crew about the challenges they faced during voyages to Antarctica, according to the press release.

In 2021, the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy, together with the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute and St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, acquired RSV 421. The vessel's primary mission is to provide transportation for Bulgarian polar missions to Antarctica, participate in scientific research activities under the National Polar Research Programme, and serve as part of the Naval Academy's fleet.
