The 24th Folklore Without Borders International Folklore Festival kicked off Wednesday evening with performances by groups from Guam Island, Costa Rica, and Bulgaria. To participate in the three-day festival are also dance groups from Venezuela, Kazakhstan, Georgia, and Panama.
Bulgaria is represented by the Dobrotitsa Folk Dance Ensemble of the Dobrich Youth Center, under the artistic direction of Yuri Mitev and Inna Zheleva.
The forum is organized by the Municipality of Dobrich in collaboration with the National Section of CIOFF Bulgaria - the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts, an associate member of UNESCO - and is held under the auspices of Dobrich Mayor Yordan Yordanov.
The festival was opened on Wednesday by Dobrich Deputy Mayor Vladimir Trendafilov. In his welcoming remarks, he wished the participants success and expressed hope that over the next three days they would forge new friendships and showcase the rich traditions and culture of their countries.
Due to inclement weather, the first evening of the festival took place at the Dobrich Concert Hall, while the festival itself is scheduled to be held in the skate park area of St. George City Park.
