Bansko Bike Fest has brought cycling enthusiasts together in the mountain town for a second year in a row from July 10 to 12, the municipal press service said. The event caters to professional riders, amateur cyclists and families alike.
The festival is organized by Bansko Municipality and the Bansko Bike Fest Association, with support from the Ministry of Tourism.
Mayor Stoycho Banenski said at the official opening: "Bansko Bike Fest is the result of tremendous effort, energy and an unwavering commitment."
He said the festival began as a vision of Bansko's business community, which received guidance and support from the mayor of Bormio, Italy. He noted that the organizers drew inspiration from a cycling festival in Verbier, Switzerland, and adapted the concept for the town.
Banenski said interest in this year's edition is three times higher than at the inaugural festival last year, calling it proof that the organizers are "on the right track". He also highlighted the financial support provided by the Ministry of Tourism, which backs the town's long-term strategy to establish itself as a year-round tourist destination.
The festival programme features a cycling rally to Vihren Hut, gravel rides on scenic routes at the foot of Pirin Mountain and an escorted road tour to the village of Ortsevo. It also offers hands-on training with professional instructors, themed cycling tours to Avramovo and through Bansko's old streets, bike tests, an exhibition by leading brands, children's activities, outdoor yoga and a party zone.
