Bulgaria aims to become one of the leading countries in technological development, with governments playing the role of catalysts in driving innovation, Innovation and Digital Transformation Minister Ivan Vasilev said during the 30th Economist Government Roundtable with the Greek Government. Vasilev made the remarks while participating in a panel discussion titled "Navigating Opportunities and Risks in the Age of Artificial Intelligence".

He said artificial intelligence and digital transformation now dominate discussions at forums around the world, noting that both political and economic debates increasingly focus on how technologies are evolving and which countries will emerge as leaders in the ongoing technological revolution.

Vasilev stressed that he views technology not as a threat but as a tool for achieving more with fewer resources. He added that while technology has already become an integral part of everyday life, it is equally important for public institutions to embrace it.

Highlighting Bulgaria's progress in the field, the minister pointed to the construction of the BRAIN++ supercomputer and the country's strong pool of highly qualified IT specialists as key advantages. He also referred to the advisory council of robots he established, saying it could help create a more natural connection between public institutions and emerging technologies.

According to Vasilev, the Ministry is committed to openness and public engagement. He said that it has launched a dedicated Discord server where citizens and stakeholders can discuss ideas related to the ministry's work, as well as the development of technology and innovation. Through open and honest dialogue among all interested parties, Bulgaria can create legislation that encourages the development of innovative technologies capable of transforming everyday life, he said.

The Minister also emphasized that establishing an appropriate legal framework will be essential to supporting the continued growth of innovation and emerging technologies.
