The government has taken important steps over the past seven days, Prime Minister Rumen Radev said at the start of the Cabinet meeting on Thursday. "We inherited a plundered treasury, but social payments are guaranteed and people can rest assured," Radev said, adding that the government was already beginning work on the 2027 State Budget.

Radev said the government's first major achievement was submitting the draft 2026 State Budget after months of uncertainty for citizens and institutions.

"The country is emerging from the inertia left by the governments of Rosen Zhelyazkov and Andrey Gurov and is being placed on a sustainable course," he said.

The Prime Minister described the budget as difficult but said it had clear merits. He said it was realistic, put an end to what he called the "budgetary gimmicks" of previous coalition governments and would provide a solid foundation for the coming year.
