site.btaGrigor Dimitrov Reaches Wimbledon Fourth Round for Sixth Time

Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov has reached the fourth round in the men's singles of the Wimbledon Championships in London for the sixth time in his career. He thus matched his achievement of last year, when he also advanced to the last 16 of the Grand Slam tournament in the UK. On that occasion, he had taken a two-set lead against Jannik Sinner before suffering an injury that forced him to retire.

Dimitrov, whose best result at Wimbledon remains his run to the semi-finals in 2014, defeated Italy's Matteo Berrettini 6-3 6-4 3-6 5-7 6-3 on Saturday in a match lasting three hours and 35 minutes on Centre Court in London.

His next opponent will be the UK's Arthur Fery, who earlier on Saturday defeated Belgium's Zizou Bergs 2-6 7-5 2-6 7-6(3) 7-6(5).

The Bulgarian No. 1 and the 30-year-old former Wimbledon finalist, who reached the title match in London in 2021, contested a closely fought encounter. Dimitrov established a two-set lead before Berrettini levelled the match, forcing Dimitrov to draw on all his reserves to secure victory.

"Honestly, it's amazing to be back here," said Dimitrov after the match. "I’m just so happy, so happy. Honestly, I just wanted to come and compete again in front of you guys. There's something special in the air."

The Bulgarian said that after last year he would never know what would have happened, but now that he is back, he is aiming to rewrite everything again.
