The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) Thursday signed a media partnership agreement with Pomorie Municipality aimed at popularizing its calendar of cultural events. BTA Director General Kiril Valchev said that the Agency adds a new partner among Bulgarian municipalities for their cultural calendar, the idea being to provide a special place in BTA's news for the municipalities with the richest cultural calendars.

BTA is already partnering systematically with 17 municipalities to cover their cultural events: Bansko, Byala, Veliko Tarnovo, Kazanlak, Kyustendil, Lovech, Pazardzhik, Pernik, Petrich, Ruse, Samokov, Sandanski, Sofia, Troyan, Targovishte, Hisarya, and Chepelare.

BTA's oldest news piece about Pomorie dates back to June 25, 1939, and it is the speech given by King Boris III at the opening of the Burgas-Pomorie railway line, Valchev noted. He also showed a 1987 photo by Stefan Tihov of the monument to poet Peyo Yavorov in Pomorie. “In fact, with the photo of Yavorov, we are also trying to draw attention to the fact that Pomorie has a rich tradition in its cultural calendar - with the Yavorov Days, which are set to be held for the 68th time this year at the end of August,” Valchev added.

“If in 2015 there were 6 news pieces related to cultural events in Pomorie for the entire year, then after we launched a dedicated culture section called LIK with a specialized correspondent based in Burgas, we had 92 news pieces last year. Since 2021, these stories have been on the rise, and in 2023, for example, there were 113. So all events from the municipality’s cultural calendar will be featured even more prominently in BTA’s broadcasts, in both Bulgarian and English,” Valchev went on to say.

Pomorie Mayor Ivan Alexiev expressed gratitude for this invaluable gift and for the partnership Pomorie Municipality and BTA have enjoyed over the years, which was reaffirmed Thursday by signing an official agreement. He noted that a new event is emerging as a highlight in Pomorie’s cultural life and cultural calendar: Sunset Port Festival Pomorie, which will take place on August 22 and 23 at the port in Pomorie. “The great thing is that this event is connected solely to Pomorie, because the organizers are from Pomorie. These are young people who have found their calling, who are very active in their businesses, but who have not forgotten their hometown. In this regard, Pomorie Municipality is not the organizer, but simply a partner and supporter of these young people, helping them turn into reality their dream of bringing Pomorie into the country’s cultural life," Alexiev noted. In his words, Pomorie is a town with character, a town with an ancient history but a bright future, preserving exactly the same spirit it has had since the time of Yavorov, the ancient Anchialo residents, the old Greek families, the salt, the sun, and the wonderful wine.
