site.btaConference to Bring Together Bulgarian and International Mathematicians in Sofia in July

The international conference Mathematics Days in Sofia will take place from July 6 to 10, bringing together Bulgarian researchers from across the country and around the world, as well as leading international experts. The event is organized by the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IMI-BAS), in cooperation with Sofia University's Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics and the Union of Bulgarian Mathematicians, IMI-BAS told BTA.

The conference is held under the auspices of Bulgaria's President Iliana Iotova.

The IMI 2026 Mathematics Prize will be presented during the opening ceremony. The award is granted every three years to a Bulgarian mathematician under the age of 40 in recognition of outstanding achievements in mathematics. Previous recipients of the award include Martin Kassabov of Cornell University, US (2014); Kiril Dachev of Purdue University, US (2017); Greta Panova of the University of Southern California, US (2020); and Vesselin Dimitrov of the Georgia Institute of Technology, US (2023).

The programme features lectures and discussions with the participation of Anton Alekseev of the University of Geneva; Atanas Stefanov of the University of Alabama at Birmingham; Ivan Yotov of the University of Pittsburgh; Jean-Luc Guermond of Texas A&M University; Johann Davidov of IMI-BAS; Lukasz Kosinski of Jagiellonian University; Mladen Savov and Nadezhda Ribarska of IMI-BAS and Sofia University; Petar Topalov of Northeastern University; and Vesselin Drensky of IMI-BAS.

Topics to be discussed include number theory, combinatorics, algebra, geometry and topology, differential equations, mathematical physics, and the mathematical foundations of computer science and artificial intelligence.

According to IMI-BAS, scientific forums of this scale help strengthen and deepen ties with the Bulgarian mathematical diaspora while providing participants with opportunities for productive collaborative research and the development of new international partnerships.
