The Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) Parliamentary Group on Friday entered a draft resolution by which Parliament would oblige the Chief of the National Service for Protection (NSP) to provide all documents on the protection of MRF leader Delyan Peevski and all others guarded by the Service since 2013, the party said in a press release.
The draft resolution has been published on the National Assembly's website.
The MRF said that the idea of the resolution is to ensure transparent and comprehensive information as the public and the media have taken strong interest in the grounds, procedure and duration of NSP protection provided to current or previous senior public office holders, as well as in the way public funds are spent on such protection.
The reasoning states that the adoption of the draft resolution will make it possible for such information to be provided properly, lawfully and institutionally, without breaching classified information protection requirements, while ensuring transparency, accountability and protection of the public interest.
On Thursday, the parliamentary Committee for Control of the Security Services approved on first reading amendments under which Parliament would resolve who should be protected by the NSP.
