Traicho Traikov, nominated by Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria, was elected Mayor of Sofia's Sredets District, Polina Vitanova of the Sofia Municipal Election Commission told BTA on Sunday night. Traikov received 77.33% of the vote. The partial local elections for mayor of the Sredets district concluded on Sunday with a voter turnout of 12.33%. Just over 28,000 people were eligible to vote.

Another five candidates also competed in the election: Georgi Nedelchev nominated by the Bulgarian Union for Direct Democracy, Ivan Tarpomanov nominated by Svoboda, Kiril Neshev nominated by Bulgaria Mozhe, Plamena Zayachka nominated by BSP - United Left, Veselina Yordanova nominated by Vazrazhdane.

By its decision, the Municipal Election Commission terminated Traikov's powers as mayor of the Sredets district prematurely on February 20 due to his election as caretaker minister of energy. The decision was made following a statement submitted by Traikov, in which he indicated that he had been nominated as a member of the caretaker cabinet and would take the oath of office before the National Assembly.
