Sunny Beach-North has once again met the criteria for the prestigious Blue Flag award, beach management told BTA on Wednesday.
Located in the northern part of Sunny Beach near Sveti Vlas, the beach forms part of the resort’s bay, which stretches for more than eight kilometres along Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast. The beach has participated in the Blue Flag programme since 2018 and remains among Bulgaria’s certified beaches.
A key requirement for Blue Flag certification is excellent water quality, verified through regular testing and sampling. Other criteria include cleanliness, visitor safety, and access for people with disabilities. The beach management emphasized that the Blue Flag is widely recognized by international tourists and increasingly valued by Bulgarian visitors as a sign of quality and well-maintained beach conditions.
Blue Flag is a voluntary certification programme of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), an international organization with members from over 80 countries. It has operated for nearly 40 years, annually evaluating and certifying beaches, marinas, and tourism vessels. Currently, around 5,200 sites worldwide participate in the programme, including Bulgarian beaches and marinas.
BTA will present all 32 Bulgarian beaches and ports awarded with the Blue Flag in 2026 by the international jury of the Copenhagen Programme. The first Blue Flag in Bulgaria was raised on Sunny Beach on July 4, 1995.
