Speaking at the start of a Council of Ministers meeting on Wednesday, Bulgaria's Prime Minister Rumen Radev said that work on the 2026 budget was ongoing. "Despite inheriting an empty treasury, all essential state systems will receive the funding they need, without cuts to social programmes or spending on education, culture, and healthcare," he noted.

The review of public procurement contracts is continuing, with projects considered inefficient or suspected of involving corruption being suspended, Radev added. The government is also working to identify measures to improve tax collection, he said.
