A six-month piano and accordion training programme for elementary school children in the Serbian town of Bosilegrad concluded with a concert on Friday. Parents and guests attended the event and had the opportunity to see the results of the programme.

The pilot initiative was aimed at developing the kids' musical literacy and laying the foundations for sustainable music education within the local Cultural Centre. It was called "Little Hands, Big Sounds - First Steps in Piano and Accordion". The project was implemented by the Cultural Centre with financial support from the Bosilegrad Municipality.

Interest in the project exceeded initial expectations. Instead of the planned minimum of 10 participants, 38 children from first to fourth grade enrolled in the course. They were divided into four groups according to age.

The training was conducted by Petar Nikolic under a previously prepared curriculum. The programme included familiarization with the instruments, correct body and hand positioning, learning basic musical concepts, first notes and tones, practical exercises, and preparation for stage performance.

Twelve children from the project took part in the final concert, along with three others who had already been studying piano before joining the programme.

The Bosilegrad Cultural Centre said the project's results demonstrate that children show an interest in music education from an early age.
