Students at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens were honoured in the 11th annual Bulgarian Studies Competition organized by the Department of Russian Language and Literature and Slavic Studies.

A total of 40 participants submitted more than 50 entries in three categories – research, translation and creative writing. The competition was open to undergraduate and postgraduate students, doctoral candidates and graduates pursuing careers in Bulgarian studies.

Entries focused on figures, events and anniversaries from Bulgarian history, literature and culture, as well as Bulgarian-Greek relations.

The award ceremony was attended by Department Head Tatiana Borisova and Bulgaria's cultural attache in Greece, Mariana Petrova. The prizes were presented by Gencho Banev, lecturer in Bulgarian language, literature and culture at the university.

Participants and winners received certificates, books in Bulgarian and Greek, and thematic issues of BTA's LIK magazine dedicated to the Bulgarian language and literature. The ceremony took place at the Faculty of Philosophy Library.

The competition is held with the support of Bulgaria's Education and Science Ministry and the Bulgarian Embassy in Greece, while the cash awards are sponsored by Eurobank.

The event also featured a screening of the 2021 film The Path of Light by director Ivan Radev, dedicated to the work of Saints Cyril and Methodius.
