Positive expectations about Bulgaria’s future have increased following the April 19 elections, with optimists rising by 5 percentage points to 52%, while 36% express pessimism, according to a Trend survey.

Public confidence in the 52nd National Assembly has improved significantly, with positive assessments of parliament increasing from 10% in April to 31% in May. The newly formed government begins its term with 45% approval against 36% negative opinions.

Nearly half of respondents (48%) assess the presidential institution positively, while 33% express negative views. The President’s positive ratings rose by 8 percentage points compared with April. The April 19 parliamentary elections are considered fair by 51% of Bulgarians, while 21% believe they were unfair. More than half of respondents (54%) believe the elections were conducted more fairly than the October 2024 vote.

Economic expectations are also improving. The share of respondents expecting improvement in the country’s economic situation over the next year rose from 18% in April to 27% in May, while pessimistic expectations declined from 40% to 28%.

A similar trend is observed regarding personal living standards, with 25% expecting improvement over the next year, up 6 percentage points from April, while those expecting deterioration declined to 27% from 34%.
