Justice Minister Nikolay Naydenov has challenged before the Supreme Administrative Court a refusal of the Prosecutors Chamber of the Supreme Judicial Council to initiate disciplinary proceedings against former acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov, the Justice Ministry said on Wednesday.

The Justice Minister has called for Sarafov to be held to account for damaging the reputation of the judiciary.

The SJC’s Prosecutors College refused to open disciplinary proceedings, citing a statute of limitations for part of the alleged violations and a lack of substantiation for the rest of the proposal, the ministry added.

Borislav Sarafov submitted his resignation on Wednesday as Director of the National Investigative Service and Deputy Prosecutor General. In his application, he said that he wishes to be reinstated as a file and rank investigator.
