The traditional Sofia Opera Wagner Festival opens Tuesday night with Das Rheingold from the Ring of the Nibelung tetralogy, the Sofia Opera announced.

This year, the event is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Bayreuth Festival and the premiere of the Ring of the Nibelung.

The festival program, which runs through June 14, includes six works by composer Richard Wagner, the four operas of the Ring of the Nibelung, as well as Lohengrin and Tannhauser.

Following Das Rheingold, audiences will be able to see Die Walkure on May 27, Siegfried on May 29, and Gotterdammerung on May 31. In June, Lohengrin will be presented on the 12th and Tannhauser on the 14th.

Acad. Plamen Kartalov is the director, Constantin Trinks conducts the tetralogy the Ring of the Nibelung and Tannhauser, while Martijn Dendivel conducts Lohengrin, according to the Sofia Opera.
