No staff cuts will be made without a prior analysis, Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev told Interior Ministry trade unions on Thursday, the Ministry said on its website. He said redundant structures would be streamlined to improve efficiency.
“The State’s financial situation is very difficult. Since the start of the year, large expenditures have been incurred that the current government has to address,” Demerdzhiev was quoted as saying. He said the need for tighter financial discipline stems from management decisions by previous governments.
State-level imbalances are very serious and every effort will be made to overcome them, he said.
The meeting, attended by Deputy Ministers Kaloyan Kaloyanov and Kaloyan Miltenov and Acting Secretary General Georgi Kandev, focused on issues related to the adoption of Budget 2026. The trade unions were briefed on the Ministry of Finance’s instructions on income policy in the budget sector as they apply to Interior Ministry employees.
“We will restore regular dialogue with the Interior Ministry trade unions. I plan to hold meetings every few weeks,” Demerdzhiev said. He said he expects all trade unions to submit their demands and recommendations for improving working conditions and the Ministry’s performance.
