site.btaBulgaria, Canada Foreign Ministers Discuss Canada Embassy in Sofia

Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova raised the opening of an Embassy of Canada in Sofia with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of a NATO foreign ministers’ meeting in Helsingborg, Sweden.

Petrova said the move would build on the partnership and strengthen diplomatic relations. Anand said opening a diplomatic mission would further deepen bilateral relations and economic ties.

The two sides expressed a shared commitment to deepen bilateral cooperation and maintain regular high-level political dialogue between Bulgaria and Canada. Talks focused on expanding the partnership in security and defence, energy, trade and investment. They also discussed cooperation in innovation, education, science and technology, and key international issues.
