Most staple food products registered price decreases on Bulgarian wholesale markets this week, according to the weekly bulletin of the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets published here on Sunday.
The market price index, which tracks wholesale food prices in Bulgaria, increased by 0.19% to 2.692 points from 2.687 points a week earlier. Its base level of 1.000 points was set in 2005.
The price of white brined cow cheese fell by 0.62% to EUR 6.05 per kg, while Vitosha-type yellow cheese was down by 0.93% to EUR 9.60 per kg. Fresh milk decreased by 1.24% to EUR 1.19 per litre, while yogurt with 3% or higher fat content rose by 3.70% and was sold at EUR 0.70 per 400-gramme container. Cow butter, sold in 125-gramme packs, fell by 1.22% to EUR 1.42 per pack.
Frozen chicken meat increased by 0.95% to EUR 3.73 per kg. Eggs size M fell by 3.30% to EUR 0.22 per piece wholesale.
Rice prices declined by 1.66% to EUR 1.63 per kg. Mature beans and lentils also became cheaper, by 1.44% and 3.83% respectively, and were sold at EUR 2.05 per kg and EUR 2.01 per kg. Type 500 flour was down by 2.56% to EUR 0.76 per kg. Sugar prices fell by 1.64% to EUR 0.90 per kg. An increase was recorded in cooking oil prices, which rose by 3.72% to EUR 1.81 per litre.
Among vegetables, the sharpest increase was recorded for mature onions, whose price rose by 12.43% to EUR 0.52 per kg, while the largest decline was observed for green peppers, down by 13.26% to EUR 2.96 per kg.
Potatoes increased by 7.69% to EUR 0.56 per kg. Cabbage prices rose by 8.83% to EUR 0.77 per kg. Red peppers became more expensive by 4.81% to EUR 3.65 per kg. Tomatoes became cheaper by 1.85% to EUR 2.26 per kg, while cucumbers were up by 1.30% to EUR 1.75 per kg. Declines were recorded for carrots, down by 3.90% to EUR 0.74 per kg, zucchini, down by 3.88% to EUR 1.55 per kg, and green salad, down by 9.29% to EUR 0.83 per kg.
Among the fruit currently monitored by the SCEWT, only apples became cheaper, falling by 0.94% to EUR 1.32 per kg. Oranges rose by 0.93% to EUR 1.35 per kg. Prices also increased for lemons, by 8.88% to EUR 2.30 per kg, and bananas, by 0.99% to EUR 1.53 per kg.
