The Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy in Varna is marking the 145th anniversary of its establishment on Wednesday. The events include an official celebration with presentations and an award ceremony, the Academy said.
They will begin at 10 am at the Academy's Planetarium with a scientific conference organized by the Maritime Scientific Society. A lecture dedicated to polar research will be delivered by Radko Muevski, commander of the Bulgarian naval research vessel Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii. There will be thematic presentations by representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Water, the Institute of Oceanology, the Centre for Submarine Archaeology, and the Bulgarian Red Cross.
At 2 pm, the Planetarium will host an official ceremony awarding an honorary doctor's decree to Flotilla Admiral Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alecu Toma, Rector of the Constanta Naval Academy in Romania, and Dr. Rowan Van Schaeren, Director General of the Maritime Academy in Antwerp, Belgium.
Shortly before 4 pm, an official wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the monument of the academy’s patron, Nikola Yonkov Vaptsarov, followed by a ceremonial parade featuring the Representative Brass Band of the Bulgarian Navy.
At 5 pm, the Festival and Congress Centre will host a ceremonial general assembly of the Maritime School, including a detailed presentation of its achievements and an awards ceremony. The official program will conclude with a festive concert.
