As of May 11, the amount of available impounded volumes in complex and significant reservoirs is 5,168.1 million cubic meters, which represents 79.07% of their total volume, the Ministry of Environment and Water press service said Monday.

At present, the percentage of total volume of reservoirs in Bulgaria is the highest compared to the values recorded in the last nine years for the same calendar period, the Ministry said.

The Kamchia reservoir is 100% full, and the Srechenska Bara, Hristo Smirnenski, Yovkovtsi, Ticha, Yasna Polyana, Asenovets, Borovitsa, Studena, Domlyan, Pchelina, Krichim, Kardzhali and Ivaylovgrad reservoirs are over 90%. The Kamchia, Asenovets, Pchelina and Pancharevo reservoir are overflowing.

The Ministry of Environment and Water manages water resources in 52 significant and complex dams. Amid the spring flood, the companies operating them are carrying out preventive water releases, where necessary, to free up capacity for increased inflows and keep levels within optimal limits.
