Securing payments under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) and implementing real reforms are among the key priorities of Bulgaria’s new government, Prime Minister Rumen Radev said during the cabinet’s first regular meeting.

Radev highlighted the government's main focus areas, including judicial reform, healthcare, transport, social policy, and the energy sector.

“One of the major challenges and priorities for us is the election of a new Supreme Judicial Council,” the Prime Minister said at the opening session of the newly formed Council of Ministers.

He also highlighted the government’s role in advancing amendments to the Judiciary System Act, stressing the cabinet’s commitment to dismantling what he described as the country’s “oligarchic model”.

“This requires a determined and proactive government capable of driving the fight against corruption,” Radev said, adding that lasting results would also depend on the existence of an independent and effective prosecuting magistracy.

According to the Prime Minister, the government will work actively to prevent and investigate corruption-related crimes while ensuring the collection of court-admissible evidence. These efforts, he stressed, will go hand in hand with cooperation with Parliament on the appointment of a new independent and legitimate Prosecutor General.
