Speaking at a changing of the guard ceremony at the Council of Ministers on Friday, newly elected Prime Minister Rumen Radev said that he believed that “our government is the first step toward establishing stable, strategically oriented governance in Bulgaria, with a single goal, namely the modern development of Bulgaria as a contemporary European nation.”
Earlier in the day, the members of the newly elected Council of Ministers took their oath of office before the 52nd National Assembly. In his address to both the outgoing and incoming ministers, Radev said the government would focus on ensuring the security and well-being of Bulgarian citizens, guided by the principles of democracy, freedom, solidarity, and justice.
He also thanked the caretaker Cabinet for its work in ”organizing normal and fair elections and ensuring institutional continuity.” Radev expressed appreciation for the detailed handover report on the state of the executive branch. He noted that Andrey Gurov had been selected to serve as caretaker prime minister as a result of what he described as “unfortunate constitutional amendments that led Bulgaria into a dead end.” “I know it was not easy for you,” he added.
Radev wished the caretaker ministers success in their future endeavors.
Following the ceremony, Radev told reporters that the government’s first meeting would take place later in the day, noting that there was no time to waste. “A country is built over centuries, so we are simply continuing to build Bulgaria, hopefully through our joint efforts,“ he noted.
