site.btaUPDATED New Ministers Should Start Work with Serious Analysis of Situation They Inherit, President Says
The ministers in the Rumen Radev Government must begin their work by conducting a thorough analysis of the situation they are inheriting and the reality they face, President Iliana Iotova commented on Friday after the members of the regular cabinet were sworn in. This would allow them to take not only long-term but also short-term measures, she added. According to Iotova, there are many pitfalls that will surface in various ministries, which have been there for years.
Earlier on Friday, the 52nd National Assembly voted 124-70 with 36 abstentions to elect Rumen Radev of Progressive Bulgaria as Prime Minister and 122-70 with 36 abstentions to approve the composition of the Cabinet.
The President commented that she knows a significant number of the new ministers and has worked with them in various capacities. “I believe they have the professional experience and the courage to lead,” said Iotova. She stated that she has no reservations about the ministers she knows and has worked with.
When asked about new ministers associated with There Is Such a People (TISP), a party that was in the previous parliament but failed to garner enough votes to win seats in the 52nd National Assembly, Iotova replied that she does not believe they joined Radev’s government as TISP representatives. Their expert knowledge has clearly been valued, and Radev has placed great trust in them, the head of State added.
In none of the statements, not even those from the opposition, was there any challenge to the programme presented by Radev, she went on to say, noting that these are the most important priorities facing Bulgarian citizens. Work will begin with the 2026 budget, and as early as Monday, packages of laws related to lowering prices and curbing inflation will be submitted, she said. The President also highlighted the law on "repairing" the judicial system.
The head of State wished the new government success. “We, the citizens, expect quick results and not just the fulfillment of campaign promises, but of what we heard from Prime Minister Rumen Radev,” said Iotova.
