Bulgarian law enforcers of the General Directorate Combating Organized Crime and the State Agency for National Security seized over 4,000 ancient artefacts during a specialized police operation at the end of April, the Interior Ministry said in a press release on Friday.

The law enforcers made four arrests and searched seven residences in Blagoevgrad, Sandanski and Kyustendil (Southwestern Bulgaria) and a motor vehicle. They seized 3,819 ancient coins, 180 apparently valuable ancient artefacts, 13 ancient rings, as well as four metal detectors, electronic devices, ammunition and over EUR 5,000 in cash.

Pretrial proceedings have been instituted in the case, and the case records have been reported to the prosecution service. Work on the case is in progress.
