site.btaYacht Race Closes Bosphorus to Transit Shipping Sunday
The Bosphorus near Istanbul will be closed on Sunday to transit shipping in both directions due to a sailing regatta, Turkish newspaper Cumhuriyet reported.
Transit passage of vessels through the Bosphorus Strait, which connects the European and Asian shores of the metropolis of Istanbul, will be suspended in both directions. The reason is the Helly Hansen – Sport Works Bosphorus Race, according to a statement published on the official website of the Directorate General of Coastal Safety.
The regatta is included in the 2026 calendar of the Turkish Sailing Federation.
Sunday’s spring cup race is also considered an indicator of Turkish sailors’ preparation for the country’s oldest and largest international sailing event, the Bosphorus Cup, which will be held for the 25th time this year from September 17 to 19.
