President Iliana Iotova told journalists that a new model of cooperation needs to be established so that institutions can work together, seek partnerships, and reach consensus-based solutions. "Bulgaria is in great need of this," Iotova said. She is visiting Vidin, where she is a guest at the celebration marking the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Petko Rachov Slaveykov Secondary School in the city.
In response to a question about her address to newly elected MPs, Iotova said that she would deliver her message to the future deputies in the plenary hall first. In her words, the public expects orderliness from politicians. "People voted for normality, and we must do our utmost to achieve it. The challenges facing the country are severe, and anyone who does not work in the interest of citizens has no place in Bulgarian politics," Iotova said.
In response to a question about her readiness to hand over a government forming mandate, she noted that this depends on the holidays and her upcoming participation in an international forum in Yerevan, Armenia. Topics related to the future of the European Union will be discussed there, as well as more specific issues that are part of national policy - the vertical gas corridor, the fight against drug and human trafficking. "Above all, how we see the restoring of Europe’s leading position in the coming years, which I am convinced the new government will work toward," Iotova added.
"There is no reason for this process to be delayed. Consultations with all parliamentary groups will be convened as soon as possible. I held in-depth discussions when appointing the caretaker cabinet, and I hope that these discussions will be just as substantive and positive. After that, I will hand over the first mandate, which I hope will be fulfilled as quickly as possible," Iotova added.
