site.btaMinister Describes Assessment as Key to Energy Efficiency Projects
The implementation of energy efficiency improvement projects would be at risk without proper assessment, and therefore the work of energy efficiency consultants is a key element in the entire process, caretaker Minister of Energy Traicho Traikov said in Sofia on Monday. "If the first step is not done properly, all subsequent steps become more expensive and more uncertain," Traikov said, opening the National Meeting of Energy Efficiency Consultants in Bulgaria. The meeting was organized by the country's Chamber of Energy Auditors and the Association of Bulgarian Cities and Regions.
Traikov recalled the EU target, which foresees that by 2050 the building stock should achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions. He stressed that this is not a distant horizon but a process that has already begun. Traikov noted that, based on his longstanding experience, countries that have declared earliest their readiness to meet this goal attract the most funding and support schemes. He cited Greece as an example, saying that Bulgaria's southern neighbour will eliminate its coal industry by 2030.
"Buildings in Bulgaria are among the least energy efficient in Europe, but looking at the situation positively, this means there is potential for strong results that can transform entire communities," he said.
Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Dora Yankova said during the forum's opening that, following talks with the State Agency for Metrological and Technical Supervision and representatives of the non-governmental sector, the possibility is being considered of including lifts in energy renovation projects for buildings. She noted that 80% of lifts in the country are over 30 years old.
After the opening of the forum, Energy Minister Traikov told journalists that any future actions regarding measures to support citizens and businesses due to rising fuel prices will fall within the responsibilities of a future regular government.
