Kiril Milov won Bulgaria’s first title at the European Wrestling Championships in Tirana on Wednesday, defeating Alex Szoke 3-1 in the final bout of the Greco-Roman 97 kg category. This is Bulgaria’s first gold medal of the tournament. Earlier, Semen Novikov won silver in the 87 kg division, while Stefan Grigorov took bronze at 55 kg.

For Milov, this is his third European title after Budapest 2022 and Bratislava 2025. He is also a two-time world silver medalist from Budapest 2018 and Belgrade 2022.

Earlier on Wednesday, Abu Muslim Amaev and Svetoslav Nikolov lost their repechage matches. Bulgaria’s first three female competitors, Viktoria Boynova, Daniela Brasnarova and Vanesa Georgieva, were also defeated and eliminated.

On Thursday, Olga Popova (57 kg) and Bilyana Dudova (62 kg) are set to enter the competition.
