Bulgarian pop music legend Margret Nikolova has passed away at the age of 97, the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) reported.
Nikolova was one of the most prominent voices in Bulgarian pop music, with a career spanning over 70 years. She performed more than 9,400 concerts and built a repertoire of over 600 songs, working with leading Bulgarian composers and becoming a defining figure of the genre.
She rose to major national recognition after winning the Grand Prize for Bulgarian Song at the first “Golden Orpheus” festival in 1969 with “I Dreamed a Dream,” one of her most famous performances. Over the years, she received numerous state awards and honors for her contribution to Bulgarian culture.
Born in 1928, Nikolova worked with several major musical ensembles, including the Army Estrada Ensemble, and later the Bulgarian National Radio choir.
