Sofia Municipality is stepping up efforts to improve the use of open data and digital services, Mayor Vassil Terziev said during a ceremony honouring Sofia students who won medals at international science Olympiads over the past year.

Addressing the awardees, Terziev congratulated them and highlighted the importance of their achievements not only for the country but also for the city's future.

He pointed to the qualities that distinguish Olympiad participants - curiosity, perseverance and the courage to seek better solutions.

Chair of the Sofia Municipal Council Tsvetomir Petrov, who also attended the ceremony, emphasized the role of young people as active drivers of change in modern society.

"In recent years, we have seen a new generation emerging that knows what kind of world it wants to live in and, more importantly, how to change it. This is our hope for a better future," Petrov said.

He added that Bulgarian students competing in international science Olympiads are clear proof of the country's potential on the global stage, expressing confidence that their achievements will continue.

"I am convinced that behind every medal lie years of preparation and effort. I believe you will have successful careers and that one day one of you will bring the first Nobel Prize to our country," he said.

The awarded students have won medals in some of the most prestigious international competitions in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, informatics, linguistics, astronomy, geography and artificial intelligence. Their success reflects years of dedicated preparation, national selection rounds and exceptional commitment.

Terziev stressed that these young people are Sofia's most valuable resource. Gratitude was also expressed to teachers and parents for their support and role in nurturing students’ development and confidence.

By honouring the medalists, Sofia Municipality reaffirmed its support for young talent and its ambition to position Sofia as a city of knowledge and innovation.
