At its regular meeting on Wednesday, the caretaker Council of Ministers adopted a decision approving funding for the Interior Ministry for 2026. The financing in the amount of EUR 4,500,000 has been approved to ensure the needed urgent repair and restoration work on the fence, a preventive engineering structure, and the adjacent road along the Bulgarian-Turkish border.
In 2014, Bulgaria put up a 30-kilometre wire fence along its border with Turkiye to protect the EU external borders from illegal migrants. In 2025 Interor Ministry officials said video surveillance would be installed along the remaining 100 km of the Bulgarian-Turkish border, which is currently protected only by a fence. By the end of 2026, Bulgaria planned to have a smart border covering the entire 271 km shared with its southern neighbour.
Another government decision approves funding for the Ministry of Electronic Governance for 2026. The funds are needed to cover current expenses.
