site.btaGreece Braces for Deteriorating Weather as "Erminio" Storm Approaches
Greece is preparing for a worsening of weather conditions due to storm “Erminio,” which is expected to affect the country starting late Tuesday, according to the online edition of Kathimerini newspaper.
The Greek National Meteorological Service said the storm will peak on Wednesday, bringing thunderstorms, strong wind gusts, and localized hail.
Cloud cover is expected to increase on Tuesday, with rainfall mainly in western and northern parts of the country, as well as in the eastern Aegean and on the island of Crete. Brief storms are possible over the Ionian Sea, while snowfall is forecast in mountainous areas of northern Greece.
A red alert for dangerous weather has been issued for Wednesday in the eastern Peloponnese, Central Greece, Evia, Thessaly, the Sporades islands, the Attica region, and the Dodecanese. An orange alert is in place for the Cyclades and the eastern Aegean islands. Heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and localized hail are expected. Temperatures will range between 14°C and 17°C in most areas.
On Thursday, rainfall will continue in western and southern parts of the Peloponnese, Thessaly, parts of Central Macedonia, Crete, and the eastern Aegean islands, as well as the Dodecanese.
Weather conditions are expected to gradually stabilize on Friday.
