The ring road of Plovdiv is of vital importance because the city is collapsing, GERB leader Boyko Borissov said here on Monday. He is also the lead candidate for the party lists in the 25th multi-member constituency in Sofia and the 16th multi-member constituency in Plovdiv-city, where he met with business representatives at the Hilton Hotel.
According to Borissov, the most developed economy is in Plovdiv, with a 20% increase in tourism growth. “Everything I have promised to Plovdiv, I have fulfilled, and I will complete the ring road as well. Also two bridges and two tunnels, but they depend on the budget. For there to be a sustainable budget, there must be revenues; for there to be revenues, smuggling must be tackled - 14 billion more were collected in the budget in one year,” he added.
According to him, his greatest “sin” is that he has taught Bulgarians to drive on highways for free - everywhere else, tolls are paid. “If we say ‘there will be tolls,’ protests will flood the country,” Borissov added. “I am bringing GERB back to where we were - on the right, to spend only as much as we earn,” he said.
Before those present, he committed that, as a member of parliament from Plovdiv, the ring road would be built if the necessary funds are included in the budget.
