site.btaEuropean Commission Confirms It Has Been Targeted in Cyberattack

The European Commission (EC) has confirmed reports that servers used by the institution were subject to a cyberattack last week with data having been extracted and an investigation is underway, an EC Spokesperson said at a press conference here on Monday. 

He explained that the attack was directed against the servers of the europa.eu website, which also contain open information from the European Parliament and the Council of the EU. According to the Spokesperson, the EC's internal information system was not affected. 

The type of data downloaded or the additional measures to be taken to avoid similar incidents in the future were not specified.
