Control bodies of the General Labour Inspectorate Executive Agency identified 163 workers without employment contracts during 1,011 inspections carried out over the course of a single week, the agency said in a press release on Friday.

The largest number of violations were found in the sectors of food production, construction, and retail trade. Since the beginning of 2026, a total of 735 undeclared workers have been identified. In each such case, labour inspectors are required to issue an official administrative violation report, with penalties under the Labour Code ranging from EUR 766 to EUR 7,669.

In 2025, nearly 50% of all inspections conducted by the General Labour Inspectorate were focused on curbing undeclared work. According to the agency’s operational data, inspectors carried out 21,969 checks aimed at preventing undeclared employment. This accounts for 44% of the total 49,660 inspections conducted over 2024.
